May 1990: Mr. Son brought a group of students to Caracas, Venezuela to help run a local tournament. Our host was fourth degree black belt Luke Grande.

Our Hosts. Luke Grande is second from the right.

When we got to Caracas, we went directly to the beach.

Jerry Orenstein, Mr. Son, and Ray Mondschein.

Mr. Son, Anne Berlin, and me.

Before the tournament started, a band played. It was a very festive atmosphere.

In the ring, Jerry is assisting Mr. Son at the judges' table. Ray is the judge on the left, and Marty Dellacona is the judge on the right.

The locals woke up Saturday and Sunday to join us for early morning practices.

I'm pretty sure Mary Theodore choreographed this one. Visitors alternate with hosts; from the right, the visitors are Mary, Anne, Josie McAuliffe, and Josie's sister Karen Whitehead.

A kick in the ribs.

On Saturday night, we went out for serious steak and less serious salsa dancing. Luke Grande, Mr. Son, Anne, and Jerry.

The gang.
